The control examination with gas analyzes aims to assess the patient's respiratory condition through the analysis of blood gases (pH, PaCO₂, PaO₂, HCO₃) and adjust the ventilation parameters based on those results. This examination enables precise adjustment of ventilation in order to maintain optimal gas parameters in the patient's blood and direct further therapy.
First, the patient is placed in the appropriate position, and relevant data from previous examinations and analyzes are collected. A blood sample, usually arterial, is then taken for gas analysis to determine parameters such as pH, PaCO₂, PaO₂, HCO₃ and SaO₂. Based on the results of the gas analysis, ventilator parameters are checked, such as breathing frequency, pressure, volume and other relevant parameters, in order to determine whether changes in ventilation are needed. If the gas analysis shows an imbalance in the gas parameters, ventilation parameters are adjusted, such as increasing or decreasing inspiration, changing pressure or volume, in order to achieve a balance in the blood. After that, monitoring of the patient continues with further analysis and adjustment of ventilation depending on the patient's response.
A control examination with gas analyzes usually lasts from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the patient's condition and the time required for analyzes and correction of ventilation parameters.
What is a control examination with gas analysis?
This examination includes a standard control examination with an additional measurement of blood gases, which allows the doctor to assess how the body exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide.
How are gas analyzes performed?
Gas analyzes are performed by taking a sample of arterial blood, usually from the wrist, to measure oxygen, carbon dioxide and pH levels.
When are gas analyzes required?
Gas analyzes are needed in patients with respiratory problems, heart disease or those on mechanical ventilation, in order to monitor the state of breathing and the level of oxygen in the blood.
Is the test painful?
The test may cause slight discomfort when taking a blood sample, but the procedure is short and safe.
How long does the control examination with gas analysis take?
The examination takes about 30 minutes, including the time for taking the sample and analyzing the results.
