The 12-hour night nursing care in the home environment provides medical care to patients during the night, when care is needed due to chronic diseases, post-operative recovery or other health problems. Nurses in this on-call regimen provide safety, administer therapies, and assist with daily activities during the night, providing patients with continuity of care and reducing anxiety for families.

During the 12-hour night shift, nurses perform the following:

Monitoring of vital functions - Measurement of temperature, pressure, pulse and respiration, as well as control of sugar levels in diabetics, to ensure a stable condition during the night.

Administration of therapy – Administering medications, injections, infusions, or other treatments as scheduled to prevent potential complications and ensure proper therapy.

Assisting with basic activities - Assisting patients with dressing, toileting, changing positions to prevent pressure sores and ensuring comfort during sleep.

Physical rehabilitation - If necessary, nurses help with exercise or physical therapy, as well as support in walking or prevention of complications from lying down.

Emotional support - Providing calm and safety to patients, especially those with terminal illnesses or anxiety, as well as family.

The 12-hour night shift lasts during the night hours, usually from evening to morning. This on-call provides continuous care during the patient's sleep, providing medical assistance whenever it is needed, and provides additional security to the family during the night.
