A control examination by a general medicine specialist is a key component of monitoring the health of patients, especially those with chronic diseases or specific health problems that require regular monitoring. This examination includes a basic assessment of the patient's current condition, analysis of symptoms and identification of new health risks. Also, the control examination includes the interpretation of laboratory findings that can provide additional information about the function of different body systems and help the doctor to establish or adjust the diagnosis and therapy. The aim of the examination is to ensure that the patient's vital parameters and general state of health remain in balance, as well as to recognize and solve all potential problems in a timely manner.
The control examination begins with a detailed history, in which the doctor collects information about current symptoms, changes in health, possible complications or new complaints. The doctor will ask questions about lifestyle habits, diet, physical activity, as well as about possible changes in therapy or new medications that the patient is using.
After that, the doctor performs a physical examination, which includes the measurement of vital parameters such as blood pressure, pulse, body temperature, respiration, weight and height. The specialist can also perform specific physical examinations depending on the patient's condition (eg examination of the heart, lungs, abdomen, joints and muscles). Also, the doctor can perform additional tests on the spot, such as EKG or pulse oximetry, if necessary.
As a key part of the control examination, the doctor interprets the laboratory findings that the patient previously submitted. These findings may include blood tests (eg complete blood count, lipid profile, liver and kidney function analysis, blood glucose levels, hormone status, etc.), as well as other tests that provide insight into specific health parameters. Based on these results, the doctor assesses the patient's condition and can adjust the therapy, recommend lifestyle changes or, in some cases, refer the patient to additional specialist examinations or treatments.
A control examination with the interpretation of laboratory findings usually lasts from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the complexity of the patient's condition and the scope of laboratory analyses. If additional consultations or specific tests are required, the examination time may be longer. The doctor uses this time to analyze the findings in detail and provide the patient with all the necessary information, as well as to answer questions and provide further guidelines for treatment and health preservation.
